Lab undergraduate Roman Meneghini defended his thesis on Pheidole pilifera on 4/29/22. His experiments investigated the contributions of morphological castes to seed processing and brood survival during winter months in this cold-weather ant. Nests of this species can be over two meters deep, so untangling the costs and benefits of producing minor and majors workers was no small task.
